"Senator McCain's life experiences are epic, they are legendary," Pawlenty said in response to a question at the National Press Club. "They are a life story. Not a life oratory but a life story," Pawlenty added, in an apparent reference to Obama's much-discussed public speaking skills.

"That stands in contrast to Senator Obama," Pawlenty said, turning his attention to the presumptive Democratic nominee. "It is simply a matter of fact that less than four years ago he was a state legislator."

"It's not even a close call in my book as to who you want in sitting in the Oval Office as President of the United States, leader of the free world, commander-in-chief."

So, did these guys not see the primary where these sorts of attacks demeaning Obama's oratory were fairly ineffective for Hillary Clinton?

Yeah, a black man going from single parent mother to being the first black editor of the Harvard Law Review, a man so compelling, he was ASKED to write a book about his life before he had graduated Law School (possibly because he didn't finish in the bottom 5 of his class as a legacy?), The first black man ever to be nominated by a major political party, a man who doesn't own 13 homes due to marrying old heiress money after divorcing, yeah, no life story there (and I just touched on it briefly).

After hearing that Pawlenty had said some (gasp) nice things about Obama earlier, I assumed he had received word from up on high that he had been passed over for veep--and was thus seeking out some gentle payback.

Looks like T-Paw's back in the game, however...

If John McCain had not been so unlucky as to have been made a prisoner of war, he would not be anywhere close to where he is right now. He wouldn't have his rich wife, he wouldn't have his long-term Senate career, he wouldn't be in the running for President.

John McCain's life was handed to him. Barack Obama went out and worked for his. He won it all on his own merits by being the best and the brightest. Not because his daddy pulled strings to get him something he didn't earn.

A few weeks ago, I would have defended his honor, but why bother at this point? He doesn't.

It is the truth. His father got him a relatively high-ranking spot in the Navy when he nearly flunked out of the academy. His capture made him a hero when he got back. His story made him able to have an affair with a beautiful blonde heiress. His money and famous dad helped get him elected to the Senate. And all the while, he's used his POW story as the ultimate argument settler.

I suppose he should send a thank you note to the commies for shooting his skyhawk dive bomber down over the skies of Hanoi , then dragging him out of the water and torturing the crap out of him for 5 years which has left him physically deformed.

I would think there are easier ways to catch a beautiful blonde heiress and run for office .

But your own comment acknowledges that it WAS the way he landed those things. That's all I'm saying.

As for what he went through, I don't even feel comfortable saying it was awful, because I don't think there are words for it. But putting any sentimentality aside, speaking frankly, the only reason he wasn't killed was entitlement. They found out his father was an admiral and saved his life instead of leaving him for dead.

But to be clear, I believe what McCain went through was something beyond my comprehension. Behind all of our comprehension. I don't think that most could have made it through that and not be forever traumatized, myself included.

Give me a break. Lots of guys didn't come back from Nam - ALIVE. Some of my family and friends were in body bags - some there was nothing to bag. McCain nixed continuing the search for POW's/MIA's.

You join the miltary - you can expect to be captured, shot, tortured...but you don't make a career of it. Some of the most humble guys I know don't talk about their heroism.

McCain advertises it like a brand name.

He's a hypocrite - check his record on vets.

And BTW - the Communists in Vietnam were sending him home - and gave him medical treatment. We torture people too, and kill prisoners. McCain supports torture. He of all people should be screaming about getting tid of GITMO.

He's an asshole.

I think they were effective. Not to be a concern troll, but Hillary Clinton well once she was on offense, it was just that Barack Obama had run up the score to such an extent that it didn't matter what she did.

But to the extent that they can make his oratory a negative, especially before the convention, they should do it. Their audience is the press: get the press to roll their eyes at his speeches, and be a filter between him and the audience.

I have that readiness.

Well, before this thread was temp hijacked by Shazone, we about to mention that Pawlenty is more like an attack poodle.

Good thing he is off the VP list, it would be sort of pathetic to watch, say, Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton tear him a new one in the VP debate.

On Nov 4th, Barack Obama officially ends the Southern Strategy....

I think it may have more resonance because we are presenting this argument to the general public and not typically well-informed Democrats. We can not over look the fact that most voters are ignorant.
